Humpback whales have distinctive markings on their tails that help identify them. I grew obsessed with Pinball - a female humpback whale - when I first saw her off the coast of Cape Ann. In 2023 she got entangled in fishing gear that prevented her from fluking. Thankfully her distress was noticed by rescuers who were able to free her. This abstract represents her freedom and the goodness of humanity.
